Hello, hello, hello. Hope the lockdown isn’t driving you all too crazy and that you are all keeping well! Roll on the pubs and school reopening!
I meant to do this as a weekly thing but got little sidetracked - so here are the songs keeping me sane through this lockdown.
Manic Street Preachers
Not much has changed since the last recommended, Manic Street Preachers is pretty much all that I'm listening to lately. Ocean Spray is one of very few MSP songs actually written by James Dean Bradfield, it's both beautifully written and sung, you can really hear how personal this song is to JDB. Just adore this band.
(It's Not War) Just The End Of Love - Just throwing this in here too for good measure, plus the other Welsh legend that is Michael Sheen is in it!
Bathwater - Who couldn't resist some No Doubt and who doesn't want to be Gwen Stefani?
Hayley Williams - Simmer
It did take me a few listens to really get into this song but it eventually wouldn't leave my head and ended up repeating it. I still think it kind of sounds like "Breathe and Stop" at the beginning though.
Jimmy Eat World
Jimmy Eat World just have such an incredible back catalogue but this one just seems to fall below people's radars. Think it has such a chilling feeling in the chorus and just an overall beautiful song.
Local Boy In The Photograph
In primary school, a friend and I used to share a set of earphones and listen to Stereophonics. At the time people thought we were abit weird cause we loved this and not spazzing out over the Spice Girls or Westlife. I just always found the likes of Kelly Jones and fellow welshman James Dean Bradfield much more appealing than any boyband member. This song and Bartender and the Thief just always put me in a nostalgic mood.
Like my comment on No Doubt, who wouldn't want to be Brody Dalle? I first heard/saw The Distillers on P-Rock music TV station and it was their video for Young Crazed Peeling, I had never seen or heard a band like this in my life. I was just so excited there was someone like Brody on my TV and making music like they were. I am still beyond jealous of her gravelly voice and feminine punk look.
